Cultural Intelligence: Working within or Managing a Multi-Cultural Team

Description
“We are sun and moon, dear friend; we are sea and land. It is not our purpose to become each other; it is to recognize each other, to learn to see the other and honor him [her] for what [she] he is: each the other’s opposite and complement.” — Hermann Hesse (1877-1962), German poet and novelist

The business world has changed drastically over the past decade. Both globalization and a more diverse workforce have had dramatic and positive effects on how much organizational and individual cultural values play a role in business success and team member engagement. Cultural Intelligence (CQ) is the capability to relate and work effectively in culturally diverse situations. While awareness is the first step, a culturally intelligent individual also can effectively work and relate with people and projects across different cultural contexts. Team and organizational diversity themselves do not lead to better business solutions. Engaging your team to develop their cultural competency can help leverage these critical individual differences to design better business solutions and more truly inclusive working environments.

Any successful organizational culture involves high-performing teams which recognize the simple fact that people want to belong. They want to feel valued and respected for who they are and be part of a team that enables them to learn and grow. Cultural intelligence provides a pragmatic strategy and skill set for how to relate and work across cultural differences at home and abroad, whether in person or online. The culturally intelligent person who understands global and domestic diversity can work more effectively with peers, coworkers, and customers with different international backgrounds and from different generations, ethnicities, functions, organizations, regions, and more.

Who Should Attend
Anyone working in or managing a culturally diverse team; individuals whose organizations have an international presence or have culturally diverse customers or business partners; Human Resources professionals who serve as internal consultants or mediators of workplace conflict.
