This workshop introduces participants to the basic concepts of creativity, innovation, and cognitive diversity. It provides participants with specific tools and techniques that they and others can use to independently and collaboratively generate critical business ideas.

Who Should Attend
Individuals and intact teams who need, want, and/or are expected to develop skills that can help them to more fully tap into their innovative talents, to create new ideas that solve problems, identify new products or services, and stimulate collaborative thinking between individuals.

You Will Learn
After this workshop, participants will be able to:
  • Understand how leveraging differences in the way people think can foster greater innovation
  • Enhance collaboration with others by understanding the impact and value of the entire range of innovation styles, through the Innovation Style Inventory (ISI)
  • Leverage the power of two people joining forces to collaborate, through innovation teams- ThinkerTeams
  • Employ a variety of specific, hands-on techniques, designed to change your perspective and subsequently generate new ideas, solution sets, and unique insights on purpose
  • More fully consider and make decisions about these new ideas by employing a thinking process that easily combines and thoroughly examines emotions, information, logic, hope, and creativity

Course Outline

Introduction to Applied Innovation
  • Understanding the innovation system within your organization, the “Innovation Wheel Model”
  • How to use lateral or parallel thinking techniques to balance perspectives rooted in emotions, logic, improvement opportunities, critical thinking, and creativity, when making decisions about and finalizing your new ideas
Cognitive Diversity for Innovation
  • Innovation Style Inventory review

Building Innovation Teams
  • Introduction to teams of two
  • Leveraging cognitive diversity within teams of two
  • How to build innovative teams of two

Innovation Tools & Techniques

  • Overviews and explanations for a variety of idea-generating techniques that leverage both linear thinking and intuition
  • Practice activities that allow participants to experiment with tools


Up to 30 students


  • Virtual Classes will be a live, Instructor lead class in Zoom for Government, a virtual technical assistant VTA will be available to assist students with any technical issues, take roll, administer evaluations, and distribute certificates of completion. Course materials will be provided electronically.
  • Onsite classes will be held at your location. The instructor will travel to you. Materials will be printed and shipped to your site. A sign-up sheet will be provided for student to enter their name (as they want it on their certificate) and the email address to send the certificate to. GSA travel costs will be added to the course fee. Contact us for a travel estimate.
  • A minimum of 2 weeks lead time is needed for virtual classes, 3 weeks for onsite classes.
